Russian Navy destroyer tests artillery in the Mediterranean

The Russian Navy informed January 26 that its anti submarine warfare ship Vice-Admiral Kulakov held air defence exercises in the Mediterranean Sea.

Sailors aboard the Udaloy-class destroyer tested the Kinzhal surface to air missile complexes as well as the Russian-built AK-100, a naval cannon of universal caliber, and the AK-630 close-in weapon.

In the course of the exercise, the command staff inspected readiness of the crew for performance of unexpected tasks on providing air defence, repelling aerial attacks of a simulated enemy from different altitudes and directions.

The ship’s crew also participated in the international counter-drugs exercise Arabian monsoon – 2015 held in the Northern Indian Ocean.

The Udaloy-class destroyer and its crew are conducting damage control exercises, anti-aircraft and anti-submarine defense drills on the move with the embarked aircraft during a long-distance cruise which started October 23, 2015.
