On Wednesday 01 May EUROMARFOR Naval Force Portuguese Flagship NRP  Álvares Cabral provided medical assistance to a crew member of merchant vessel MV JS Colorado. At 15:50, MV JS Colorado issued a distress call requesting urgent medical assistance to one sailor which suffered serious multiple wounds due to a fall in the ship's deck. Following this request, Force Commander deployed the nearest ship, EUROMARFOR Naval Force NRP  Álvares Cabral which was on counter-piracy patrol in the area, to provide immediate assistance. The Portuguese ship headed MV JS Colorado at maximum speed and launched its helicopter Super Lynx Mk 95 with the medical team onboard, which was transferred to the merchant vessel by winch. Onboard, the medical team provided immediate first aid and pain relief. "The medical team transfer by winch which, executed in the proximity of several masts, was a test to the skills of helicopter's crew and showed the flexibility provided by rotary wing organic assets. Nevertheless, by the end of the day what is of upmost importance was to be able to deliver help to that sailor in need. My crew is happy for that." NRP  Álvares Cabral Commanding officer said.
