First friendly approach in the Gulf of Aden for ITS Doria. On the 11th of August, the first activity of this type has been conducted by the new flagship in order to foster mutual understanding and confidence between the European Units fighting against the piracy and local seafarers, as well as obtain direct information about the area situation. Friendly Approaches are the tools that allow Units to keep contact with fishing and cargo dhows and speak to the masters and crew.
ITS Doria, the EUROMARFOR flagship, conducted her first Friendly Approach on a “sambuq”, a cargo dhow. Rear Admiral Guido Rando, and his multinational staff, will be embarked on ITS Doria for the next 6 months.
