ALFLOT, Admiral Bolíbar, completes the first year of Command of EUROMARFOR

On 18th September 2013 the Spanish Fleet Commander, Admiral Santiago Bolíbar took command of the European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) relieving the French Vice-admiral Philippe Coindreau.

During this year of activity, EUROMARFOR participated twice in the Atalanta Operation, first from 6th December 2013 until 6th April 2014 having a French flagship (FS Siroco) and now, since 6th of august 2014, with an Italian flagship (ITS Andrea Doria). Other ships such as ESPS Relámpago, ITS Libeccio, ESPS Tornado and ESPS Navarra where commited to this operation also under EUROMARFOR Flag. The results were very successful, as no merchant ship was pirated during this period.

In the training domain,  an EUROMARFOR task group of minehunters participated  in the Italian exercise  Minex 2014. Another EUROMARFOR task group consisting of frigates (ESPS Santa María, FS Moncalm and NRP Vasco da Gama) was also activated to participate in a Multicooperative Exercise with the Royal Moroccan Navy. This was a successful exercise that enhanced the cooperation of EUROMARFOR with Mediterranean countries.

The planning for the second year is also very ambitious, aiming to the achievement of the common goals of the EUROMARFOR countries. The Spanish Command is to be completed on September 2015 and afterwards it will be transferred to Italy.
