SP MINEX Started

SP MINEX-15 is a LIVEX Exercise planned by ALFLOT (Spanish Admiral of the Fleet) and is conducted by COMTEMECOM (Commander of the Mine Warfare Force), from 18 to 28 May 2015 in Alicante approaches and surrounding waters, to improve cooperation and effectiveness of allied Mine Warfare units and staffs in expeditionary MCM operations, in a crisis scenario.

The tatical commander is the commander of EUROMARFOR Task Group, Captain (N) Jaime Golmayo Hafner, embarked on SPS Relámpago. This officer was designated directly by COMEUROMARFOR during his speech by the occasion of EUROMARFOR 20th Anniversary Ceremony. In the exercise are operating more than 500 soldiers from the six countries. In the  exercise are operating ships from EUROMARFOR (France, Italy, Portugal and Spain) and also from ships from Germany and Turkey. The mines used in this exercise are simulated, completely harmless, safe for the environment, and will be collected at the end of the exercise.  

In the first week EMF group participates in the force integration scheduled exercises to achieve the necessary readiness level. In the middle of the first week begins the cleaning of the area for the civilian evacuating drill purposes.

In the second week the intention is to clean an area from mines and other danger artifacts, always with pressure done by an opposite force. At the 3rd day the area will be granted as cleaned and then the main goal of this exercise will be achieved.

The list of EUROMARFOR ships is:

  • SPS Relámpago (flagship);
  • SPS Tajo;
  • NRP Baptista de Andrade;
  • FS Capricorne;
  • ITS Rimini.
