After the first counter piracy patrol since the EUROMARFOR warship ITS Libeccio joined the operation Atalanta, the Italian ship has moored in the port of Salalah.
During their port visit, the Italian Warship has carried out a Local Maritime Capacity Building exercise with the Royal Oman Navy in order to increase their counter piracy training.
The exercises were leaded by the Boarding party and the “Brigata Marina San Marco”. The members of the Royal Oman Navy received some training on the tactical procedures as well as the bridge and cargo inspection with the collaboration of the Omani ship “Al Seeb”. The Royal Oman Navy expressed their desire to repeat this experience in the future increasing the mutual cooperation between the two navies.
The 24th of June, The Commander of ITS LIBECCIO, Daniele P.M. Martinuzzi, carried out some courtesy visits to the local Authorities in the city of Salalah.
The Italian commanding officer met the Deputy Governor of Dhofar, Abdullah Bin Saif Al Mahrooqi, the Chief of Police of Dhofar, Brigadier General Mohsen Ahmed Al Abry, the Southern Naval Area Commander, Qasim Bin Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Balushi and the Deputy Managing Director of the Port of Salalah, Ahmed Ali Akaak.
The Omani authorities really appreciated the efforts of the EUNAVFOR (including EUROMARFOR) units in the Indian Ocean deterring and disrupting the piracy activity. The ITS Libeccio continues with her counter piracy patrol monitoring as well all the fishing vessels off the coast of Somalia.
