On board European Union Flagship ESPS “Galicia”, the young dentist, Lieutenant Luis Megino Blasco and his sanitary sailor Glenis Olarte Escobar, provide assistance to the crewmembers and all the Somali seafarers in need of dentistry assistance.

The dentist clinic is located on the main deck inside the hospital facilities at the same level of the flight deck, just in case a medical evacuation is necessary to be done during a surgery operation.

Among the tasks of the dentistry clinic, they have to provide urgency assistance not only to the Flagship’s crew, but also to all the force flow crewmembers or if necessary, to any seafarer sailing the Indian Ocean that request urgent medical assistance.

Since the ESPS “Galicia” joined the operation Atalanta, they have assisted some local Somali leaders during an encounter onboard. With this kind of assistance, EUROMARFOR units try to understand the Somali pattern of live and strengthen mutual understanding and trust between EUROMARFOR units and local Somali population. 

The Force flow dentist clinic has all the necessary material to treat the different urgencies that could arise during the time on the Area of operations. Pain treatment, teeth reconstructions and dental decays are the most usual treatments performed on board ESPS “Galicia”.

Apart from the dentist, the Spanish Flagship is fully equipped for any emergency with an anesthesiologist, a surgeon, a traumatologist, a laboratory analyst, a general doctor chief of the hospital, two male nurses and 4 nurses.

Whilst the ESPS “Galicia” continues patrolling the Indian Ocean deterring and disrupting any piracy activity, and monitoring all the fishing activity off the Somali coast, the hospital members on board will await and be prepared if an emergency assistance draw up.
