ESPS Meteoro is underway towards Atalanta Area of Operations

On August 9th Spanish Warship “Meteoro” (P‐41) left her home base in Canary Islands in her first phase of integration on EU Operation Atalanta under EUROMARFOR Flag.

She will sail through the Mediterranean Sea, with two logistical port calls, in Rota Naval Station (Spain) and Catania (Italy). After that, she will pass through Suez Canal and sail towards the port of Djibouti, where she will finally start her participation in the Operation.

ESPS “Meteoro” will be one more EUROMARFOR ship integrated in EU Task Force 465 under FHQ Command from September 1st to November 15th, when she will start her trip back home through South of Africa.

The ship will offer to the Operation an AB‐212 helicopter, ROLE‐1 medical facilities, two fast boats and a Marines Security Team, which will add to the TF another asset capable of arm robbery disrupting, non-cooperative boarding, friendly approach, intelligence gathering, piracy deterrence and Local Maritime Capability Building.

ESPS “Meteoro”, under command of Lieutenant Commander José Almira and with 78 seamen and marines on board, is the first of four Oceanic Patrol Vessels and the one that gives the name to this type of ship.

This will be the second time that this warship is integrated in TF‐465 under EU Command, being the first two years ago.
