Spanish Navy’s Landing Platform Dock (LPD), ESPS Galicia, arrived to her homeport of Rota, Spain, after a six month deployment.
The vessel, which was conducting missions as part of the counter piracy Operation Atalanta, entered Rota yesterday, October 25.
This was Galicia’s third deployment in the counter piracy operation off the coast of Somalia. The vessel’s assignments included providing escort for merchant ships belonging to the World Food Programme and protection of international shipping vessels that pass through the Gulf of Aden.
Since deploying from Rota in April, Galicia covered 30,000 nautical miles sailing in the Indian Ocean.
The vessel was relieved on 6 October by frigate ESPS Victoria.
