German frigate FGS Augsburg will set sail for the EUNAVFOR Med Operation Sophia to join the already employed German replenishment ship FGS Berlin on Friday, November 20.
Lead by Commander Senior Grade Jorg Mascow, the crew of Augsburg, together with the replenishment ship FGS Berlin, will be the German contribution to the mission in the Mediterranean.
Looking forward to the deployment, Commander Senior Grade Mascow said:
A firm action against smugglers with the goal of disrupting the criminals’ bussines model is an essential part of our mission. However, rescuing every person in danger at sea still remains every sailors’ top priority.
The men and women onboard FGS Augsburg are expected to return to their homeport, Wilhelmshaven in early March, 2016
