Crossing the Strait of Gibraltar on September 9, Italian Navy sail training ship ITS Amerigo Vespucci concluded her 2017 training cruise.
The training course took Italian Navy officer cadets on a four-month cruise in the Atlantic Ocean.
Cadets sailed from La Spezia, Italy, to Portugal and then crossed the Atlantic to visit Hamilton, Bermuda. They subsequently sailed to Canada where they made port calls in Halifax, Montreal and Quebec City.
After Canada, sailors took the Amerigo Vespuci to the US visiting Boston and New York.
Concluding their stay in New York at the end of July, officer cadets embarked on a 20-day transit of the Atlantic taking advantage of the western winds on their way home.
Often referred to as the ‘Lady of the Sea’, the full-rigged, 100-meter ship is named after the famous Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci and is in service with the Italian Navy as a sail training ship.[Read more]
