Offshore Patrol Vessel ESPS “Meteoro” joined EUROMARFOR Task Group in Operation Atalanta on September 1st, after three weeks of transit from her home port in Las Palmas (Canary Islands, Spain).
On 17 May 2015, during a counter-piracy patrol in the Arabian Sea, EU Naval Force warship, ITS Grecale, came to the assistance of a tug after it had put out a SOS distress call. The tug had developed engine failure whilst en route from the UAE to Somalia and was drifting in open waters.

The COMGRUEUROMARFOR and Atalanta Force Commander of the European Naval Forces in Somalia visited ITS Grecale during the Saturday 30th of May. The Italian ship was about to finish her deployment at sea with the Operation ATALANTA. ITS “Grecale” joined the Task Force 465 last 17th February 2015. Since then, she has been patrolling the Area of Operations in accordance with the mission of the Operation ATALANTA.
During a patrol mission off Somalia, the Operation ATALANTA Force Commander, Rear Admiral Gómez, who is based in ESPS “Galicia” visited the merchant vessel “Douro”. MV “Douro” transports merchant aids provided by the World Food Program to Somali population.
